Construction of the Great Wall first began in the seventh century BC. At that time it was also called Spring and Autumn Warring States Periol(770-476 BC. And 475-221 BC.) The first wall that appeared in China was built by Kingdom Qi and Kingdom Chu. They built a high wall, which was called ¡°Square Wall¡± surrounding their own territories that could make the invading enemy feel terrified by the high wall, so it was also known as the Qi Great Wall and the Chu Great Wall, so it was also known as the Qi Great Wall and the Chu Great Wall. During the Warring States Period(475-221 BC.) there were mainly seven small kingdoms known as Kingdoms of Qi¡¢Chu¡¢Yan¡¢Zhao¡¢Han¡¢Wei¡¢Qin. In order to defend themselves against the infringing enemy from the neighboring states, all the kingdoms had high walls built around their own territories for self protectiong. They also built high walls at the strategic points to protect their northern territories. The three states of Qin,Zhao, and Yan had the high walls and fortresses built along their northern frontiers as defensive projects. These high walls were the primitive type of the present day Great Wall and laid the foundation for the present Great Wall.
